Myth.

In extremely clear water, I have had fish move under the boat and then either come out from under after I thought they were gone, or they hit the bait from under the boat. I have seen this on numerous occasions with different colored hulls... Red, Silver, Black, blue, etc.

What I find fish scare from is movement from above. Move too quickly in your figure 8, especially on clear water, the fish will bolt.

Heck...sometimes I think these fish are so dumb I wonder how they survive. I once saw a fish that was literally 2 inches away from a slow/no wake buoy, facing it of all things, on a lake that has absolutely no current in it. The buoy was in a bay and put out by the lake association to help curtail shoreline erosion.
