I have a 19.5' boat and have the same locaters (Garmin 240's) on both ends of the boat. I have never had interferance problems even over deep water.

I know some people have had problems and some not, with all makes.

For the most part I am inclined to think that you could still run the same locaters (2 high end ones so you both have a good clear view) vs. running a "lower quality" unit up front for your buddy.
