Thanks for your response. Wondering why one would want a speed sensor attached when the transducer had one built in, I called Lowrance and talked to a tech rep. The purpose of another sensor is to monitor the temp in your livewell (or somewhere else) - you can actually monitor three different temps with the built in transducer temp sensor and two additional sensors attached. I also found out the answer to the second question - The question was "could you just hook the transducer to the back of the unit without the "y" cable if you decided to not use the speed sensor? The answer was yes (from a Lowrance Tech Rep)
