Subject: enlarging hole in top of console

Location: Eastern Ontario
Anybody ever had any luck enlarging a hole with a hole saw when you don't have a solid center for a drill bit to center the saw? The hole my depthfinder wires com through is about 1 inch in diameter and I'm thinking I need about 2 with some way to trim it. I have to get 3 power cables, 3 network cables and at least 1 transducer cable to the top of my console. Had to remove 16 screws to get panel off underside of console WHY WOULDN'T THEY JUST USE A PIANO HINGE AND A COUPLE OF LATCHES.
I'll have to see if I can.
