thescottith: In WI if the weight of the trailer & everything on/in the trailer is 3000 lbs or less it doesn't need to be registered (license plate), 3001 lbs & up it needs to have registration/license plate and title. If the trailer was purchased new, it should've had a Certificate of Origination, think of it as a birth certificate for the trailer. Titling the trailer is always the best route to go whether or not it needs registration. Hope this helps.
