what I don't understand is you can get a top of the line computer for well under what some of the new units are going for with more power, more memory, more technology but prices of these big screens keep going up and up and up...3500 for a unit?
most technology comes down in price....not for Humminbirds and Lowrance tho I guess :(


One word: competition.

Windows/Intel/AMD architectures are commodities. One works pretty much exactly the same as the next. If Humminbird or Lowrance opened their technology and allowed any company to license it for a small fee the prices would drop like a jigged Bondy bait. Of course doing so would cut into their market share so that's never going to happen.

The folks at Humminbird and Lowrance have done their homework. People will buy these. If people will pay $50K plus for a fishing boat, what's another $3K ?
