Again can't answer the cold weather questions but this years model has been used very hard without issues.Here's something that has helped the smoothness and quietness for me.At times with hard use the shaft actually looks roughened up.I carry a rag n spray can of Kroil in the boat n every few days,spray the rag n then rub down the shaft.Smooth man,smooth.
