I say any prop that is on the boat is acceptable so long as it propels the boat forward and gets you on the water to fish!!

As for painting aluminum, your first step is to ensure the prop is very clean of all finger marks, oil, etc. A good acetone or alcohol wipe would do well.

After cleaning and prepping the prop:
1) Get a can of etching primer. What this will do is etch the bare aluminum and allow the promer to adhere to the bare aluminum itself. From there, you can use whatever paint you would like. The paint should not flake off, but will wear as normal on any prop.
