So found the answer on an other board, a terminator is needed in both end otherwise there is a large change of weird acting instruments.

Anyway now that the NMEA works i was wondering what people think of the Lowrance point 1 antenna? fish quite i bit after dark, and would be awesome if the direction of he boat actually matched the true boat orientation.
