As much as I like my Tuffy you are correct in that the opening to the rod storage could be improved. If even a small section was removed so the rods could go in and out straight that would help a ton. The lid would also have to get modified. I imagine that would take a few mold modification but it could be done for sure. I am not sure a guy could do that on his own and make it look good but I do know one guy who did. In his case he cut a section out and glassed it back in. He could then have the butt section stick out of the storage if he had a really long rod. Not for me, as it may affect strength but he did it.

A few things that help.

1. Always put the rods in with 2 hands. I put 1 on the butt section and the other on the blank and push down with the hand on the blank.

2. Always point your rod guides up so you don't knock them off.

3. I also put my rods in the plastic sleeve when ever I put them in the storage.
