Location: North Central IL USA | Trying to make a decision. I primarily fish Bass and Musky with Crappie and Walters being secondary.
Fish-ability wise the skeeter is the better of the 2, I believe.
Skeeter pros:
1 -It’s closer to the water. It’d be easier to release Muskies and figure 8
2 - It’s 810 pounds heavier than the Impact so it’ll be more stable in the wind.
3- There’s plenty of leg room to sit in the back 2 cockpit seats facing outwards to vertical jig over the sides.
4- It has lockable rod storage (in the gunnel) for up to 12 foot rods.
5 - looks like there’ll be enough room for the graph system I want on the console ( helix 12 and helix 10)
6- Powered by 150 4S Yamaha.
Skeeter cons:
1 - no place to put the rods except the rod lockers - kinda a pain for running and gunning or when simply using multiple rods.
2 - really no place for a deck box. But I have to ask myself, what’s more important, the fish-ability of a boat or it’s capability of hauling a boat load of baits around???
3 - Rod holders. I like having vertical rod holders mounted to the front of the console. If I did that in this boat, I wouldn’t be able to open the bow live well. The boat has a 50 inch rear live well so I really don’t need the front one but it’d be nice to use it as a cooler.
Impact pros:
1- The Lund has the rod storage compartments in the cockpit for up to 8 ½ foot rods. That’s great for laying rods down when switching off rods or moving to a new spot.
2 -There’s a huge area for a deck box in the Impact!
3 - Vertical rod holders mounted to the front of the console won’t impede any compartment hatches.
4 - powered by 150 4S Mercury
Impact Cons:
1 - The rod lockers take up cockpit space and make it harder to reach over to release Muskies and figure 8.
2 - Won’t be able to set up the graph system I want. Not enough room on that dash!
3 - It wouldn’t be comfortable jigging off the sides while sitting in the back 2 cockpit seats facing outwards. The foot room just isn’t there.
4 - Wind influence. Being 810 pounds lighter it’s obviously going to blow around more in the wind. That’s kinda a pet peeve of mine as the boat I own now is a major pain in the wind. I really don’t want to ever not be able to fish a good spot because of the wind - within reason of course.
5 - No lockable storage for my 9 foot rods.
IDK, kinda looks like the Skeeter’s going to win out. What’s your opinion?
