SI on the trolling motor is useful when looking to position yourself off certain structure without getting overly close to it. Think of a moveable version of what is on the transom without having to maneuver the boat. It takes a little getting used to using it this way, to look in front of you. Yes, 360 would work much better as you don't have to interpret exactly what your looking at, but without 360 this works. You just have to be mindful of how the transducer is mounted and the direction your pointing the trolling motor. When moving in a straight line it works the same as if mounted on the transom.
