I have a 16 foot tiller as well and considered the Talon... but I ended up opting for the iPilot Link with Spot lock instead. It holds me in place relatively well, in either shallow water or deeper than 10 feet, and doesn't add weight or noise in the back of the boat. For me, it was the right decision.
Why choose? Get both. I have a Talon and I'm going to get either the Xi5 or a Terrova. The Talon is great for applications other than fishing- at the launch, eating, retying, and just anchoring without having to worry about drifting into anything.
