Watching video on YouTube about Yamaha motors. They say up and down two or three times. Waiting for it to stop each time. Never start the motor. Even a couple seconds at idle will wreck there water pump. That being said I believe they build these motors to drain out. But I start my 1998 efi mariner for 2-3 seconds at idle. Never rev.

Make sure to pull the boat and trailer out slow not to freeze water on the ramp. That could get ugly.
