ok narrowing it down....has to be how the water is passing under the boat because if when driving on plane I make a hard turn either left or right I regain contact and get a strong bottom read...that must change the water flow so it gets a solid read....so.....crawled under and noted there were a good many scratches under that part of the boat and in front of it, so I took rubbing compound and a buffer to it then applies some wax to fill in. Also the rear edge just behind where the ducer is had some of the gelcoat chipped off down to the glass so I worked up some jb weld and smoothed that out as well. I'm thinking these scratches and or chips were disrupting the water flow.....Going out Wednesday will update.
