I'm on the Shep's side - common sense, is uncommon, especially when it comes to batteries and boats. Just make sure you use stainless steel hardware! I have my pliers handy. Yes, Shep, the handles are insulated.....

True! However, as we both know, viewing a lead-acid battery as a benign plastic box of lead and electrolyte leads to a false sense of safety for the average person -> this thing can't hurt me!
