Location: Lake Elmo, MN | Definitely use the bracket. The Minnkota is a terrific trolling motor BUT it's made with a lot of plastic. In about 3-4 years that plastic will start breaking on you. There are several pieces that are most prone to it......the parts right up front where the motor tilts are very breakable. You'll need to repair the motor and trust a guy who's done it recently.....you want it OFF the boat when you do repair it. Standing at the bow, with your boat on a trailer is NOT a way to fix this motor. You'll need it off.
I have never once had a trolling motor that at some point, did not need repair. use the quick disconnect. You'll be glad you did.
