Just did this last year myself. Before you even get to the carpet, you need to seal those 2x6s. The best stuff is called spar varnish. Its some thick stuff, coat it on as thin as you can and as many times as you have the patience for. I think i did 8 coats on mine. Then the carpet (with outdoor glue) and stainless staples after youre done. Theyll last a good while if you do it properly. Also, leave the middle of the underside exposed (not carpeted) to allow for drainage. Good luck.
