Location: Lake Elmo, MN | Highly advise you NOT to go this route. Your starting battery is all that is between you and a long trolling motor trip (assuming that battery is OK) back to your lodge or trailer. And we all know....the time it decides to fail will be right a s a huge storm, or nightfall is approaching and you need to get out of there FAST.
If on a large body of water, a dead starting battery is about as bad as it gets. Sure you can make some switches (change a trolling over to get some power) but it's a huge hassle and not worth the bucks you save.
When it comes to your main motor....take care of it, and it will take care of you. That includes power.
