I thought I'd resurrect this old thread to give the results of some prop testing I did this weekend with my Ranger 617. Like PAL, I've got a 150 opti on the back mounted in the second hole from the top and I've been running a 21 pitch High Five. With 1/2 a tank of gas and just me in the boat that prop will get me 41 mph with ~5500 rpms at WOT. Good hole shot too. In part based on this thread, this past off season I picked up two Rev4s to try out. I've liked the High Five but the lack of any meaningful thrust in reverse is a little annoying.

Here are the results:

21P Rev4- great acceleration, 45 mph, ~5000 rpms at WOT.
19P Rev4- the best acceleration, 43 mph, ~5300 rpms at WOT.

I was surprised by how much better the acceleration was with the Rev4s compared to my High Five. I also was a little surprised that my rpms weren't higher with each Rev4. Based on my test, I've decided that the 19 pitch Rev4 is going to be my primary prop this season. My only lingering concern is that my rpms are still well below the max for my optimax. But I really don't think it would make sense to drop to a 17 pitch Rev4.

On a final side note, I sometimes forget how much I love my 617. It's a perfect boat for me. Handles well and fits easy in my garage.
