Location: WESTERN WI | I modified my 05 620 rod locker by cutting the tube ends off, put a chunk of carpet glued to the bow inside (to prevent and eye damage should they slide forward) Verdict: Works great! I can get 2 9 footers in the top left & top right easiest, my 8'9'' (8'6" but were extended) rods fit in the next 2 in and the middle 2 holders I get the 8'6" rods in. U do have to slightly bend the rod slightly to get them in to clear the fiberglass housing (heavier action dont flex as easily so watch the eye guides) and I use a thicker rod sock (cabelas, think of a heavy wool sock fabric) to assist in easy sliding in/out while being protected. I think its well worth it to be able to store 6 rods that previously would not fit, costs nothing just an hour or 2. I sanded down the edges where I cut with box cutter for smooth edges so that they would not snag my rod covers. Should work. I am still going to add the "mike winther holder" for when I want them out of they way and not tangling with eachother (on plane, rough water) without having to put them away. I am considering cutting the ends of some of the lower tubes to make the 7'6" tubes accommodate 8 footers but access is much tougher since the other tubes are on top of them making access available from the side only. So collapsible rods which I have 2 of seem more appealing, especially trolling versions to keep in the boat for when its time to fire up the kicker. Thanks for the info.
