So I finally got out in my rig with the new to me 1994 Johnson 60hp tiller.
I had a merc 45 prior, so I was looking up my performance as she had a tough time when I was loaded up.
My question is how do I know I have the best setup??
She ran well and planned out quickly, but my manual says 5500-6000 max rpm and I could only get her to 5400 and 34mph(gps) and I played with the trim to find the max rpm. This was with just myself in the boat. This is on my 1988 Ranger 680T, with a SS 13.25" Turbo 15pitch prop that is in like new shape. I am very happy with the performance, but that is because it is quite an improvement over my old set up. I want to get the most out of her, and run it so the motor is working in a way that she will last a long time!
