Even primarily fishing small Indiana lakes, there have been occasions for me to use my kicker to get back to the ramp. It is also an "insurance policy" when fishing big water (LSC) or remote areas in Canada. I thought I'd use mine to troll, but do so rarely (every couple of years, maybe). But I don't want a boat without one. If that isn't your pattern, then you need to do what is best for you. My $0.02.
