If fishing a river, get a flat bottom aluminum boat. Or just look on the roadside for any old aluminum boat to use as a float boat. Shouldn't cost much at all. They key is that the boat should be light enough to carry and if it fits in the bed of a truck, so much the better.

If on the lakes, I'd look long and hard at a tri-hull. Tuffy is a great choice. Lakeland has some old tri-hulls out there too. Find one that you like. And think about the trailer. I personally like the glide on bunks, but I know that you can get into shallower water and crappier launches with roller trailers.

And if you are fishing up north, some of the best fishing I've found is on lakes with the worst launches. Just something to consider.
