So long as you use common sense and apply a "safety first" approach you'll be just fine. I've seen guys in 21 foot Rangers on a 1200 acre lake casting during tornado warnings with lightening flying all over the place. The additional 7 feet of length and superior rough water handling of that boat just isn't enough to protect some folks.
