Mark, good advice! On my 98 Johnson 150, they are on the rear of the motor top-center between the top plugs w/ a black cover over them. BTW, mine are black plastic too, not metallic silver. I'd recommend that everyone get a operator and service manual for their motor, I keep mine in the boat when I'm fishing, especially in Canada. It has the instructions for lowering the motor in an emergency, e.g. on mine there is a hole with a slotted presure release valve on the left side of the tilt/trim assembly (viewed from the front of the boat). You need a flat tip screw driver (part of a basic tool kit). The manuals are a cheap investment.

To get the right manuals take the motor & serial # to your local Johnson/Evinrude dealer service parts department, they can order them for you.

BTW- Its a good idea to replace both when one fails, keep the other good one as your spare.
