From what I can find out about it, the depth finder will get its orientation and rate of turn from the cable drive foot pedal, so if you have an electric steer, you wouldn't know which way the sonar is pointing without looking at the trolling motor head and the depth finder wouldn't know how fast its turning causing blurry images.
