That's a big variance in oil usage. A gallon or two could be the difference in 50 gallons of fuel or more. When trying to determine if you have a problem, you need to be accurate in what you are observing. If you said you used 2 gallons of oil and 30 gallons of fuel, I would say your using too much oil. If you said I used a gallon of oil, and 50 gallons of fuel, then I'd say you're about right, and I'd not worry too much.
