I guess I would rather spend 30 minutes of my time than $60 on a new pedal.

FYI: A MinnKota repair guy I know told me (unofficially) to hold the pedal by the cord and jig it in the water for a minute.  This will wash a bunch of the dirt out and many times will make it work temporarily.  Once the water dries inside it will leave dirty water marks again and likely stop working again.  If this is the case, a good cleaning of the internal contacts will fix the problem.[/QUOTE]

Seriously, when it stops turning to one side take it apart and clean it. It WILL work again. The springs can be a little bit of a pain to get back in but be patient. Next time I have to do it I will take pictures and make a tutorial. I used to replace my pedal at least once a year too until I tried fixing it. You would be surprised the amount of dirt that gets in there and also dirty water spots from dried lake water... not real good conductors.
