I had a 797 (aka 798) on my old boat and now have the 998 (console) and a 788 (bow) on the new one. I rarely use the DI, but the SI gets used constantly. One of the most useful, in my opinion, is when paralleling a weed line, you can always see how far you are from it. It also will show you any inside/outside turns and other irregularities in the weed line. This is especially useful in stained water or low light and night conditions when weeds aren't visible. There are too many advantages to list, but I know I have come to depend on it, probably too much, when trying to put the pieces together.
