I don't LIKE having the white light on while fishing at night, but it's the law and in my opinion not safe to leave it off. If you run with the bow light only nobody behind you can see you.

It's also annoying to drive half way across the lake to a spot just to see white boat lights turning on when 150 yards away. I haven't tried putting a sock over the light yet but might have to try that and see how well it's still seen from a reasonable distance.
