Personally I like the Maxxum's. I had a PD on my current boat and took it off to go back to the Maxxum. Will YOU get use to it. Depends on how long you want to stick with it. For me I only gave the PD about 2 outtings before making the switch.
I think it comes down to what you feel comfortable with and how you fish. I fish a lot of shallow water and occasionally get hung up on rocks or woods. I like being able to have the trolling motor partially in/out of the water to retreive baits when we are snagged. I also like the quick response of a cable.
One thing to adjust on them is the tension screw off the front of the foot pedal. You can tighten or losen them up a fair amount. I keep mine pretty snug so when I take my foot off the pedal it doesn't spin on me. Keeps it in the direction I had it pointed.
Yes the pedal is big on these but in the fall of the year is when I think they really shine and you have boots on. it is all preference on cable/PD and what you are comfortable with. Enjoy the boat.
