I am in the same situation but think I will remove the Maxxum and try to sell and install an Ipilot. I think cable drive is improved since I last used one but I never liked doing the one legged dance. Cable is much quicker to respond and I think most newer ones are set in a well. The one I had years ago would flip around and torque steer when you take your foot off the pedal. electric steer is prefered by guys that want to steer the boat while trolling extra slow (walleye or trout) or steer a kicker that is not linked to the main motor.

Most Bass Pros seem to use cable drive
