Take it to an AUTHORIZED Minn Kota repair dealer, and have him calibrate the compass.

If you were close to Milwaukee, I'd say take it to Ed Schilling in West Allis. He calibrated mine, right after I got it, and it was perfect for 5 years till I sold that boat and beyond.

Not sure who it would be in IA.
