Last weekend I was using my terrova for trolling. I hit something and the shaft tilted and ripped the screws out of the boat where it was mounted. I rushed up to the front and grabbed it before it fell in the water. I then bolted the base onto the boat and no damage or scratch to the terrova or the ipilot functions. That shaft is indeed indestructable.

I used the machine screws that came with it and simply screwed it in. If you are installing one I think you need to think about bolting it to your boat instead of simply using the screws.
