Both are well built boats that will stand up well under heavy use. One is a regional brand (Tuffy) targeting only a few states and the other national (Ranger). The suggested retail price difference between the two when comparing like models is considerable, and is partially because of amenities standard in a Ranger that are optional in a Tuffy, and the rest due to Fiberdome's (Tuffy parent company) diversity. Ranger offers aluminum, Tuffy doesn't. Tuffy offers a G series boat with lower profile and a narrow top gunnel, Ranger does not. Tuffy offers a couple regionally based specialty models like the X170T and Esox, Esox LTD, and Esox Magnum. Ranger offers some saltwater models. The parent companies WERE about the same size, I think the marine recession may have changed that; Fiberdome has grown quite a bit (understatement) over the last decade and boat sales are not yet anywhere near pre-recession levels for national builders. Fiberdome is more diversified, and Tuffy as a result is the strongest regionally based boat builder in the US. Ranger is always near the top as a fiberglass fishing boat builder in the US. Neither is owned by an Outboard company, Ranger is owned by an investment group and Tuffy is privately owned. Both are very solid companies. Both are run by great folks.
Both have excellent resale value.
And both build great boats. Take a look at both when considering like models, and make your choice based upon what you need/want/require the boat do do for you. |
