Location: Grand Rapids MN | I was the one who mentioned to him about checking locally on how they determine the max HP power rating. The coast guard rules/laws says that the total power not exceed the max rating and some insurance agencies go strictly by the coast guard. So I said to make sure he can get insured and that this would not affect any warranty if issues arise with the transom/boat. It seems each state has its own little spin on this rating (not saying right or wrong) but would put a damper on a new purchase quickly if something arised and they dig up the fine print.
