Think that the most under rated feature of the new finders is the abilty to do recordings.

You can record your raw sonar data (while you are using the finder for fishing) and then bring it home and play it back. You can change all the settings like doing it live on the water to see if you can get better images, see different things, but you can also set waypoints while playing back. This lets you focus on the water on fishing and do your mapping when you get back. Theres plenty of other stuff you can do with the recordings if you really want to get into it.

Upgraded to a 987c SI this year and the bigger screen is great but I got mine bargain basement used ($600). Any bigger size screen will be better in my opinion but is a matter of price.
