ask yourself whether or not you really want/need the side imaging. many people just use the map and sonar and don't benefit from the other technologies.

if you don't need the side imaging, my suggestion is:
- 1158c sonar/gps ($1700 on sale), use to display the map
- 586c sonar only ($366 on sale), use to display sonar

for around $400 less than an 1198 SI you end up with more screen space for both the gps map and the sonar than you would splitting a single large unit at the cost of doing without side imaging. i love my side imaging and use it all the time, but if it's going to be more "cool" than "tool" in your boat, go a different direction.
