Location: Twin Cities, MN | You could get away with the 115, but the 617 is a heavy boat as it was part of the fisherman series. It all depends on how you fish our what you want to do.
If you want lots of speed to get from spot to spot with good hole shot, or do some tubing with the kids, you will struggle with the 115 in my opinion.
If you just like to cruise from spot to spot and like to troll, you should be OK knowing in general your hole shot will not be strong along with your top end.
I was lucky enough to find my 617 with a 150 Opti a number of years ago and it has been an all around great performing boat and motor combination.
