Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | On my Skeeter w/stepped transom, I mounted the SI transducer on the lower center of the transom above the keel exactly as shown in Dave F' s photo's, but centered on the main motor (I have a jack-plate) so there's enough clearance, the motor & jack-plate actually protects the SI transducer if you back into an object or the wind pushes you into a dead fall, rocks, etc (its not a cheap part). If you don't have that much clearance between the motor & transom, you need to make sure that the motor doesn't obstruct it when trimmed all the way down. If the motor obstructs the transducer, you need to mount it far enough down to have 180 degree unobstructed horizontal view of each side of the boat. The motor, trolling motor, kicker, other transducer's, etc cannot obstruct the SI, if so, you will have poor performance in SI mode.
Its easy just imagine you have a very large upside down protractor large enough to stretch across the transom w/ the transducer installed at the top of the protractor center - nothing in the area of the imaginary upside down protractor should protrude more than ~ 1 1/2 inch.
I also installed a thru-hull transducer & transducer switch, easy to follow instructions from HB w/ the switch & thru-hull transducer.
Have fun!
