Hey guys... Quick question for you. I have been fishing with my girlfriend's dad in his boat. His boat is a Smoker Craft 161 pro mag with a 50 horse two stroke carb engine. I noticed that when the boat is planed off and is run WOT the tack is pushing 7,000 or slightly higher rpm and in smooth conditions is getting up to about 23 mph. Previous owner of the boat installed a cavitation plate on engine and it still cavitates quite easily.I recently took a look at the prop and it looks like the numbers on the prop are 2 1/2 x 13.

Also, engine steering is very loose... in the sense that the engine will turn in whatever direction the boat is leaning. Move to left side and the engine "falls" to left. Same thing happens when moving to the right. I assume there is a way to tighten the steering to help with "holding" the engine in the position its in when i take my hands off the wheel.

My questions are:
1. I think 7K rpm seems a bit high. Seems like the engine has enough juice to push a potentially larger prop or maybe a higher pitch prop?
2. What should this engine be running at for RPM at WOT? My experience is with higher hp (150) and that engine gets no where near the 7K RPM mark.
3. How to tighten the steering?

Thanks for any advice in advance.
