I too am looking between these two as well, here is what i have found, the Yamaha comes with the variable trolling handle so you can adjust your idle up or down 50 rpm at a time, on mercury it's like a $1000 option. I also think yamaha's trim/shifter are layed out a little better, But i currently have 50hp four stroke mercury and it has been bullet proof though.
