Hambone- sorry bout the burn! Here's my suggestion but take it with a grain of salt as I am far from qualified.

I'd rip up the rest of the carpet. Could be tricky especially round the neatly tucked corners. Be meticulous and get it all out as best you can. Order a replacement carpet that matches your old carpet 2'6x3'6- enough to overlap the corners. Coat the deck and corners with a bonding agent such as glue or caulk. place carpet over deck, and where it overlaps use a flat head screwdriver or scraper and jam the overlapped area into the corners. Make sure you really gobbed the corners with plenty of bonding agent. let dry. Come back with an exacto knife and carefully cut perimeter.

ps- a less aesthetic but more practical option could be to throw in a fatigue mat cut to shape on top of the deck.
