An aluminum bass boat sits much higher than glass. I would not go longer. I had a 48" on my Alumacraft bass boat and it was halfway out of the water most of the time. I had a 54" powerdrive on my glass boat and it was just as annoying. I have a 42" now and its just right. Sure, it can go out of the water when its rough, but I'll take that over it getting in the way.

How is a 54" shaft in the way and annoying? You regularly fish with your boat in less than 3 ft of water? I guess i just don't agree - I have my 60" shaft all the way down and the prop comes out of the water enough on 400 acre lakes - Id never dream of going shorter. Newsflash - muskies bite on windy days.
