I have both, the 7 on the trolling motor, and the 8 by the tiller. The 7 is 6.4" and the 8 is 8.4", making it a bigger jump than the model # sounds. Very noticable in my opinion, it looks way bigger..
The quick access buttons on the bottom on the 8s are nice too. If you can, I'd get the 8..
