Likely the solvent or carrying agent has caused the damage. I doubt their is anything that will really fix that.

A couple things you could do is to use a good plastic polish to lessen the appearance of the spots on the black plastic.

If you plan on avoiding dusty road areas etc... an armor all product will hide them, but can collect dust and make more of a mess.

Be careful what you use on the glass or lense of the locator. I use just water with a little vinegar mixed in.
