I would highly suggest the Lowrance Mark & Elite Series lineup. If you want gps/sonar, it has it, want gps/downscan imaging, got it, or sonar by itself, got it. The Mark & Elite Series has it covered for you at a very affordable price. The gps/sonar combo also gives you the ability to use a Navionics chip with it.

Not sure what your looking to spend, but if your above $600, I'd then suggest the HDS-5. This opens up a whole lot more opportunity to add items such as SonicHub(ipod, iphone, etc) through your unit and StructureScan to name a few.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to be able to use the same sonar unit on the console and bow, correct?

If so, you want to use a Ram Mount. The Ram Mount will allow you to take the unit from the console to the bow with no problem. You'll just need to order another ball mount for the bow.
