I do not have rails on my front gunnels. But in my opinion, I would guess you could have one rod holder mounted on a 10” rail. Whereas with the 22 ½” you could mount more than one. Longer rail gives you the option to adjust your rod holder’s front to rear unless you are dead set on your location. In the end it comes down to personal preference.
