I agree with VMS, While on a guided trip on the upper french river, We experienced the same problem,Popping and jerking as if it was missing or jumping out of gear, It turned out to be a hole in the fuel line. he taped the hose ( Didn't have a replacement with him) and it cured the problem until we returned and replaced the hose. Hope this is the only problem you got.
